The St. Theresa's Convent School was first started in 1903 by Sr. Euphrasy with 8 pupils. The classes were conducted in a room which was situated behind the St. Louis Church. It was believed to be the first Tamil School in Taiping.Since then the enrolment rise to 30. To accommodate the children a new attap building was built. Two more teachers were employed to look after the standard 1 to standard 3 classes. In 1921 two classes were built for standard 4 and 5. Then the school was registered under the Perak Education Department.In 1933 a new building was built to accommodate 320 students. It was initiated by the Head Mistress Rev. Mother Sr. Clotilde and Perish Priest Father Olcomondy. Sister Mary Joseph was appointed as Head Mistress in 1958. About 11 teachers were working ini this school. In 1964 teachers from Day Training College began to teach here.From 1.6.1981 Mrs. Salachey Raman was appointed as the Head Mistress . Since then enrolment began to rise steadily. In 1983 male students began to enroll. In 1989 the enrolment was about 428. Lack of classrooms made the school to operate with two sessions. The Head Mistress with the help of PTA and the Ketua MIC Bahagian Taiping Mr. V. Raman PPN, PPT, AMN met YB. Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu. After Dato Seri visited the school he agreed to build a 3 storey bulding with 12 classrooms with a cost of RM 380 000.00
